About AtronSeige
I am a programmer, home brewer and beer lover. I am happily married to the woman who bought me my first kit and who happily allows me to brew, as it gives her quiet time to kill Diablo.

Gelatin Fining

by AtronSeige on 27th August 2018 at 21:51
One of my biggest issues with my brew was that I never got the clarity that I wanted. My beers tended to be on the line between hazy and cloudy.

So, after hearing the Brulosophy episode about gelatin fining, I read the article but I did not follow the steps, so the results were not very impressive.

So I tried it again, following the steps that I listed below. The results were a beer that was clear to brilliant! I was very very impressed.

by AtronSeige on 6th September 2017 at 17:34
Cleaning your dispensing equipment is just as important as cleaning your brewing equipment.

Warning: This process uses HOT CAUSTIC. It is bloody dangerous and very hot. Make sure you are safe and that excessive heat from your equipment cannot damage anything nearby.

  1. Start by making a hot caustic mix in a keg. I usually do 50 grams caustic flakes to 5 liters very hot water.
    1. Your mileage may vary, as this depends on the amount of liquid that your beer-line holds.

Rehydrating dry yeast (dry yeast starter)

by AtronSeige on 24th August 2017 at 07:59
What you will need:
  • One or more packets of dry yeast
  • Filtered water (Not RO or Distilled!)
  • Microwave oven
  • 250 ml mason jar (aka Consol jar) with lid and ring
  • Heat resistant gloves or a cloth
  • A shallow bowl or plate
  • 2 hands or an assistant

Filtered water is water that has been through a carbon filter. This removed chlorine from the water. If you do not have a carbon filter, you can buy a cheap one that fits onto standard taps at Dischem, or you can use
