You are in wine country, so these things are quite common. Do you have any wineries that you are friends with? Ask them for the glass DEMI-JOHNS that their cleaning/sterilizing chemicals come in.
Otherwise, plastic buckets are cheap! Get them from West Pack, plastic land, etc. Try to get white as they are closer to food grade, but it is not a major issue.
Not to mention the actual food-grade buckets cost like R65 for a 25l one. I would also LOVE to get my hands on a large 27-litre glass carboy, but their prices don't make it attractive for me at all.
Who has used the plastic water cooler bottles. They are manufactured to hold 18L. Large bung fits tightly. Im just concerned the short life span of the plastics being used for health reasons.
