So after much thought I decided I couldn't bare the thought of just using what I have. So based on the grainfather I did this. Transformed my keggel. Can't wait for my next brew.

While I was at it I conjured enough material to make a hop basket.

Very nice. Are you running gas burner or electric?

          Very nice!

Will the plastic tube (to protect the false bottom/kettle) not create a hiding place for nasty things?

It's electric. I thought of the nasties. Guess I must remove after every brew. But it's not even required since I don't have the overflow pipe like GF has. Mesh I got from place in pardon island. Bloody expensive I tell you, I still have a bit left.

The last photo shows a translucent plastic tube around the false bottom.

The lekker thing about this system is the added volume compared to the GF. I usually do 40l batches to fill two cubes. Been dreaming of doing something similar someday when I move over to electric, in a 70l kettle and then if I can get the bucks together, add a GF connect. But I hear you need to add another relay as the GF connect can't handle much...

How do you plan to sparge? using a pulley system for the grain basket or do you have some configuration similar to the GF?

Anyway, let us know how it goes on brew day!

For now 25 ltr batches, but I m sure I could go much more. I have made a flying a large arm but it's not needed as the plate on the top will spread water evenly. For the moment I plan to use my pump from urn ( HLT) to the keg.

I was really confused as to how that is removable on a GirlFriend.

Then I realized you are talking about Grain Father.

At the price I guess you can say 'same thing'.
