I've found a biscuity blond recipe that I want to try. The recipe only has a single 60min addition of willamette (30g) for bittering to 18 IBUs.
Surely all the flavour would boil away? And as such can't you then rather use a more efficient hop like columbus or magnum to get the IBUs?

Since you're building a Belgium blonde ( i have not done one. Only Merica!) i dont think they are interested in the hop flavor. And from what i read on the hop its nothing mind blowing either. Im sure you can replace it with your standard bittering hop. Like you said, you're boiling the $hit out of it anyway

I agree with Jannie. However I have always wondered why they quote flavour and aroma profiles for 'bittering only' hops. Seems contrary to the theory.
EDIT: Oh, and for 18IBU its a small amount anyway so wont be a significant varianceCheers,

I can pick up a difference in hops used in bittering, even when boiled for 60 minutes. Yes, it makes a difference. Some hops provide a smoother bittering, others are more resinous or herbal, etc. It's not a lot though but I did pick it up when I made "everything with Admiral".

I have made a couple of Belgain Blonds and have added a neutral hop for bittering at start of boil and for flavour & aroma I have added at 5 min for the one and at flame out / whirlpool for the other.

Stick to what the recipe says ... there's a reason the master brewer developed the said recipe like that ....
and NO, you will still pick up on the flavours of said hop, even if boiled for 60min ... where do you get it that you boil away ALL flavour ?
PS: a 60min Willamette blonde sounds like a nice beer ... a blonde doesn't need to be overly hoppy (hence why I don't DH a blonde)The Problem With The World Is That Everyone Is A Few Drinks Behind.!
