As far as I am aware, all CO2 extinguishers have the same outlet size and thread pitch.

+1 ( in ZAR AFAIK) Usually when you buy those pressure hoses for sodastream online, they dont fit our cylinders, but you do get adaptors that converts to the right thread for ZAR use

Not really. I have a 5kg cylinder that has a valve with a completly different thread and will not take my regulator.

But you can always get the valve replaced

That's strange. Both my 5KG with the tap valve and the 2kg with the squeeze handle have the same thread size and pitch.
The guys at Midrand Fire Services also told me they should be the same, it's apparently a mandatory standard?

Doubt that. Powder extinguishers are not as rugged as CO2 cylinders. Their operating pressure is about 13bar and they are pressure tested to only 40bar. The 56bar that CO2 operates at I think would rupture a cylinder designed for powder.
