To be quite honest I never noted the temp on paper.
I do know that it was well above thirty even thirty one.
I did note that once a fresh barrel was placed into the
chamber that it took very long to cool down during the
day. However at night the temperature managed to drop
below 28 degrees and once that happens the setup struggles
to recover. Let's not forget that it is mid winter and it gets
bloomin' cold out here where we are. I seem to believe that
under the circumstances that the 60watt globe is managing
quite well at 27.5degrees overnight. Just not good enough
    though. Your thoughts please!

I appreciate what you are saying Snyper564. Me by no means
very educated in electrics however I do understand that it will
require a certain amount of watts to warm up a specific volume
(air, liquid even mass) in a certain time span!!. A 75 watt
ceramic reptile lamp already 15 watts higher than what I use.

I am curious to know how far one can push a STC 1000 without
damaging the relays. I seem to believe there is a way to do this
but first let me get my facts straight.

Just keep it as is and make 27ºC your default fermentation temperature ??

          It's a 10A relay @ 220V or 15A @ 110V

but I've read on a few forums already of people burning those relays on things as low as 1500W

So i would suggest an "external" relay for high watt equipment where the SCT's relay in turn toggles the external relay

          • Currently my set up is running at 29.5 degrees.

Not bad at all I guess, although the lamp is on
full time. Even a default 28.5 degrees will be fine.

            Thanks JIGSAW,

Thanks for the confirmation JIGSAW. Had an idea
that an external relay would work. It's more commonly
known as a relief relay in the car industry. Regarding the
burning of STC relays as low as 1500watt or is it 150watt??
              My hairdryer was only 1200watt.

              • 1500W was what I read.

I think it was on an Australian forum where the guy burnt out 2 of then with a 1500W heating element.

                    Watt ÷ Volts = Amps.

High amps is what will kill your STC. Its only rated for 10 Amps, and that's pushing it. Ideally you don't want your STC to take on too much current because it will affect its longevity and it will also give off heat (which can be bad if you have your STC mounted in a closed project box)

Building a simple relay circuit to protect your STC will cost less than R200. (buy a 15A relay from Mantech or RS online)

I would wager it's because of the division sign that he used.
