my brother in law lives in the uk, he's on the list to get the Wee Beastie as soon as it drops, also a longstanding member of the SMWS, i'd rather not say anymore, it's enough to make a grown man weep ...in the dark (thanks loadshedding)
    Ah, I didn't know that!

Also, the Wee Beastie is here. All over, actually. I've seen plenty of okes with bottles. Apparently it's just a 10YO that's younger. I saw reviews of it, and people say it tastes like, well, a young Ardbeg.

        3.5 kg Pale Malt
        150 g Smoked Malt
500 g Cara Munich II Weyerman
        100 g Choc Malt
        500 g Oats
        250 g Cara Ruby
        50 g Black Malt

        Thoughts?
where are you getting the caramunich from? you're not going to hit ~7%, too little fermentables in the grainbill

Yeah I'd up the pale malt up to 5kg if you want to get closer to 7% ABV.

So I keep the others as is, but up the Pale Malt to 5.0kg?

            Cara Munich is from Beerlab.

Here ya go, my take on your recipe. Not sure if you saw it...I added the munich (dark) in lieue of the caramunich, but if you're adding caramunich - check that you're not too sweet with cara ruby addition, a kg of cara is quite a bit

1 pkg — Fermentis S-04 SafAle English Ale

a few notes on that recipe

firstly it's a fast draft, i dropped black malt ( i dont like it ) that amount of oats will give your a full round mouthfeel, but could work at that abv. i boil for 35min and amp up the hops to make up for the short boil. i dropped us05(american) for s04 (english), i didn't fiddle with brewhouse or other efficiencies. willamette (us) and fuggles (uk) are awesome, almost interchangeable , mittelfruh (german) is awesome, but at 6g is almost nothing, hersbrucker (german) has an aa of 2.7 iirc and the 12.5g is nothing. you could play with the hop ratios/addition times, wee heavy has a bit of a sweet taste, so the 1.018 is high, but in style. reducing the chocolate wont be bad, 150g perhaps...

Anytime Rob, I'm going to do a wee heavy too. I dont like "big" beers that much but I'll bite - should have done it a few months ago - it's warming up

i've only seen it at beerguevara, stilltec (on the other side of the bay) and brewmart (jhb) it's usually not imported in the same volumes as other malts and fly off the shelves when it lands. i bought 8 or 10kgs on the last round for a peaty-af all grain whisky i made. i'll check if i still have some at home, but dont bet on it
