  • Calcium magnesium tablets.

Was sitting looking at my brew and distill pot bubbling away, and I had just taken my vitamins. I remembered some folk add half a multivitamin to their wash when fermenting, got me thinking about needing calcium in the brew or distill.
So question I have is, would a calcium magnesium tablet or part thereof perhaps be a hack or usable item when brewing distilling.

Not at that price, no. Baking soda is cheaper to raise the wash pH.

Why raise the pH when yeast enjoys 5pH and lower?

the 5 I know of, lower I believed was a problem.
My wash stalled at 3.2 and then took of with a spoon of bicarb added ?

Please elaborate - a I am far too young here to argue

I've had two washes clock in at "between 2 and 3" on the pH scale, according to a mate with a pH meter thingy. Plain sugar washes with tomato paste. It stalled at 1.023. I added some bicarb to raise the pH and the next day it was at 1.006 and I stilled it. Now I just add bicarb by default on the third day of fermentation. Yeast likes a lower pH but too low and it also doesn't enjoy it that much :P

then you know the answer: if your wash is too acidic, add a flake of caustic soda...........

target should be between 4.00 and 5.00 for a sugar wash
